Surfer dude stuns physicists with theory of everything - Telegraph
See, now this is why I don't blog about more science articles. This is right up my alley, something I'd like to read more about especially as the Large Hadron Collider gets started up. But really, this article tells me almost nothing. It's like "Hey, theres this thing and it could explain these other things! but since this is a popular science article written for the general population we won't tell you any more." That is so frustrating to me that I've pretty much stopped reading a lot of physics science articles.
I'm mostly getting my news from nytimes science section and del.icio.us links tagged science or physics. I had hoped that the naturally geeky base in del.icio.us would give me good substantial science news, but it's mostly people doing correct or incorrect reality based physics in flash games. A lot of teacher/education resources too, but the above link from the Telegraph is the most I'm getting on cutting edge physics, and I'm not even sure how seriously I should take it.
Does any ones else have a good source for graduate level physics news? I need something between the no-new-info general public writing and the Ph.D. level stuff that I don't have the time to invest in.
Maybe Slashdot's science section? I've found that the quality of their linked articles varies, but some of the stories are reasonably in-depth (and/or link to the journal articles they reference) or obscure enough that the popular science publications haven't found them yet.
ReplyDeletethanks, I'll check it out. I used to read slashdot until their feed stopped working with my google gadget, but that was over two years ago.
ReplyDeletelinked in dailykos today was something about a science blogging conference going on this weekend. if you look at who is registered for it theres a bunch of links that are probably hit or miss, but. i figured this might be a helpful site to look at for you.
ReplyDeleteoooh, kate I already found an interesting one through a couple pages of link hopping. it will prolly take me a while to browse these. Thanks!
ReplyDeletesilly goose, you could always just look for the original work:
ReplyDeletehttp://arxiv.org/abs/0711.0770
but that isn't exactly what you are after. information is tending towards vastness and freedom, so if interested do some simple digging!
caleb
yeah, caleb, you're right, I'm not looking for the original paper cause I know I don't have time for that right now. But I did find this: http://www.liegroups.org/AIM_E8/technicaldetails.html
ReplyDeletemuch more like what I was looking for!
